Film Riot teaches the process of making films from start to finish, as well as simultaneously entertaining with its comedy sketches that feature the effects and techniques taught on the show. It is uploaded every Monday and Thursday, excluding Halloween[1] and other extenuating circumstances. The show gives tutorials covering various aspects of low-budget independent filmmaking, from cinematographic technique and shooting a scene to cheap special effects, post-production, screenwriting and planning, showing the tools and methods used in the process. Their episodes are characterized by their nonsense humor that fills their sketches broadcasted.
Film Riot started on Revision3 on 27 May 2009. Back then, the crew consisted of Ryan as the filmmaker, Tim as the designer, and Josh had the essential job as the ladies man. Since Film Riot's beginning, episodes have always been on a Thursday, however in 2011 they introduced a shorter Monday episode. They continue to show Film Riot every Monday and Thursday, with the exception of the Halloween episode, which premiered on a Saturday. There are usually episodes every week but they do take the occational break, like in November 2010 when Ryan got married. Since then, they have also added a new show called Film State.
