Fiddleford

Fiddleford is a small Hamlet situated between Sturminster Newton and Okeford Fitzpaine in North Dorset, UK. It was founded by an English nobleman named Fitela (Fitela's Ford), and the aforementioned ford is over the River Stour.

Fiddleford is home to around 25 houses, the Fiddleford Inn and a large successful mushroom farm. In the hamlet there is also the beautiful mill and weir and the Fiddleford Manor, one of the oldest buildings in Dorset, probably dating from around 1370 and built by William Latimer, Royal Sheriff of Somerset and Dorset. Fiddleford Manor justifiably claims to have "the most spectacular timber roofs in Dorset".

North of Fiddleford is Piddles Wood, a small wooded area, which is a very popular dog walking haven. Interesting flora grows in the different seasons, such as holly in the winter, and the Dunce Cap (Conocybe) Mushroom in the autumn.

Every second month, the residents of Fiddleford group together, with real community spirit, and produce the 'Fiddleford Flyer', which provides all of the front page breaking news, in addition to seasonal recipes and weather news.
