Fennoscandia and Fenno-Scandinavia are geographic and geological terms used to describe the Scandinavian Peninsula, the Kola Peninsula, Karelia and Finland. Geologically, the term also alludes to the underlying Fennoscandian Shield of Norway, Sweden, Finland, which is the exposed portion of the Baltic Shield.
In a cultural sense, Fennoscandia signifies the historically close contact between Sami, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Russian peoples and cultures. Unlike the term "Nordic countries", Fennoscandia does not include Denmark, Iceland, Greenland or other geographically disconnected overseas areas.
The White Sea – Baltic Canal is often considered the limit that separates Fennoscandia from the Russian landmass.
