Federal Correctional Institution, Three Rivers

Federal Correctional Institution, Three Rivers is a Federal Bureau of Prisons facility for men located in unincorporated Live Oak County, Texas.[1][2] The facility is along U.S. Highway 72 West,[1] across from the Choke Canyon Reservoir. FCI Three Rivers is 8 miles (13 km) west of Three Rivers, 73 miles (117 km) northwest of Corpus Christi, and 80 miles (130 km) south of San Antonio.[3]

In 2008 a riot occurred among between prison gangs; prison sources in the state told the San Antonio Express-News that one gang was of U.S.-born Chicanos and one gang was of Mexican citizens, known in the BOP as "Paisas." As a result of the riot, 22 prisoners sustained injuries, and one, 38-year old Servando Rodriguez of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, died. Seven wounded prisoners were treated at the facility. 15 injured prisoners received treatment in hospitals in Corpus Christi and San Antonio.[4]
