Fatima (officially Barangay Fatima) is one of the 44 barangays constituting the municipality of Ubay, in the province of Bohol, Philippines. It is also the most densely populated barangay in municipality with 4,078 persons per square kilometer of land.

The barangay's total land area is approximately 75.10 hectares,[2] with a population of 3,056[3] as of 2007. In the last 2010 National election, it has 1,710[4] registered voters.

The Ubay National Science High School, the second science high school in the province is located on the southern part of the barangay.

Barangay Fatima celebrates its annual fiesta every May 13 in honor of their patron saint.

Location

Fatima is situated east of Poblacion. The local vicinity is bounded by Camotes Sea to the north; Barangay Poblacion to the west; Barangay Katarungan to the east, and Barangay Bood to the south.

There are seven puroks or units in the barangay manned by the elected kagawads including the Punong Barangay or Barangay chairman.

History

Back in 1970, Fatima was a sitio of barangay Katarungan. Before it became a barangay it was called sitio Cahoring. Cahoring was taken from name of the old folk was said to known as Nong Coryo who was living near the creek which also named after him.

Through the petition filed by the inhabitants of Sitio Cahoring dated December 28, 1970 to the Provincial Board and through the endorsement of the resolution No. 106 Series or 1970 of the Municipal Council of Ubay, Bohol, the Provincial Board through the effort of then Erico B. Aumentado as Provincial Sponsor and member of the Provincial Board approved Resolution No. 158, dated August 23, 1971, Special Session No.122. A Resolution creating Sitio Cahoring of barangay Katarungan, Ubay into an independent barrio to named Fatima in the Municipality of Ubay, Province of Bohol. Since before Sitio Cahoring became a barangay it has already a chapel with the Patron Saint of Blessed Virgin of Fatima and Santa Cruz that has own fiesta that falls on every 13 May which originally owned by the Nahe’s family. Since then the people of Cahoring jointly celebrates annual Fiesta with the owner with the chapel. Some activities in celebrating the annual fiesta includes benefit dance parlor games and other activities that shows the spirit of fiesta even if its only a Sitio. The named barangay Fatima came from the Patron Saint of Sitio Cahoring before the Blessed Virgin of Fatima.

Tres Reyes

Fatima has an island sitio of Tres Reyes,[5] also known as Chico Island which has an area of approximately 45 hectares. It is divided into 3 puroks namely Lawis, Tawid and Tang-tang. The people of Tres Reyes are mostly fisherman.
