Farncombe is a village in Surrey, England. It is administratively part of Godalming, coming under the remit of Godalming Town Council and the Borough of Waverley.

Farncombe is an ancient site of settlement, archaeological finds from the Bronze age have been found in Northbourne Estate.[1] Evidence for a Roman Villa has also been found in Binscombe, a local hamlet. In more modern history Farncombe has appeared in Domesday Book of 1086 as Fernecome. It was held by the Bishop of Bayeux. Its domesday assets were: 2 ploughs, 15 acres (61,000 m2) of meadow, woodland worth 3 hogs. It rendered £1 4s 0d.[2] The village lies on the River Wey and canal boats can be hired here taking travelers up to Guildford and beyond.
Few older buildings survive as evidence of its long history; among the oldest is a row of almshouses, built in 1622. Farncombe is within the census area Godalming Charterhouse which has a population of 5,053.[3]
It is home to many old buildings which are not just in Farncombe itself but in neighbouring villages like Shalford and Busbridge. One of the oldest buildings in Farncombe is Farncombe Infants School situated on Grays Road, which was built in 1905 and was originally a boys school, built by subscription near Farncombe railway station and opened in 1905. The school became an annexe for the infant school in 1975.
Farncombe has various transport links, being served by the Portsmouth-London railway, through Farncombe railway station, and the Hoppa community bus project. It is very near the A3, which also links the village with London & Portsmouth, and link to the M25.
Farncombe has a youth football team called FYFC (Farncombe Youth Football Club) for boys and girls from ages 6/7 to 16/17. Farncombe also has a Lesiure Centre called Godalming Lesuire Centre and is home to Godalming Swimming Club. It is also home to Farncombe Cricket Club which is situted along Summers Road.

Farncombe is served by a number of traditional English pubs including: The Freeholders,[8] White Hart,[9] The Cricketers[10] and The Charterhouse[11] and is also home to many shops and business.
Farncombe has housed The Farncombe Cavern, a Live Entertainment Venue since May 2010. The Cavern provides live music and comedy to the immediate community, and draws patrons in from all over the country.
John George "Jack" Phillips was born in Farncombe. He was an early wireless telegraphist who died while serving as senior wireless operator on board the maiden voyage of the RMS Titanic. He continued working as the ship sank, trying to contact other ships that might be able come to the assistance of the Titanic.[12] Phillips is commemorated by the Phillips Memorial Garden in Godalming, designed by the famous garden designer Gertrude Jekyll,[13] and a memorial in the St. John the Evangelist Church in Farncombe. The Jack Phillips pub in Godalming High Street is named after him. The memorial garden which is situated next to the River Wey is one of the biggest memorial gardens in the world for a single Titanic victim.[14]
