Trinity Guildhall

In 2004, Trinity College London's performing arts examinations division merged with the external examinations department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama to form the Trinity Guildhall examinations board. Today, Trinity Guildhall offers qualifications in performing and teaching in areas such as music, speech and drama, and dance. In addition to grade examinations, music and drama diplomas are available at three levels – Associateship (ATCL), Licentiateship (LTCL) and Fellowship (FTCL).

Trinity College London is the awarding body for the series of professional performing arts courses that are funded in part by the Dance and Drama Awards scheme.

Trinity Guildhall Graded Music Examinations

Trinity Guildhall offers internationally recognised graded musical qualifications. The grades are numbered 1-8 and increase in difficulty the higher the number. Grades are offered in almost any instrument. The exams are in two sections – music theory and performance. Trinity Guildhall exams are, in general more performance-oriented than the exams of Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). Both sections of the exam differ depending on the grade, e.g. at Grade 1 the candidate is only required to memorise a few scales, tell the difference between legato playing and staccato playing, and tell the difference between piano playing and forte playing. In the performance section, the candidate is required to play several prepared pieces with the written music.

Trinity College London ESOL

Assessments in Trinity College London ESOL were first offered by Trinity College London in 1938. Today, Trinity College London ESOL offers certificates in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) for non-native speakers of English, and in Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) for teachers of non-native speakers of English.
