YLE FST5 (Finlands Svenska Television, literally "Finland's Swedish Television") is YLE's Finland-Swedish national television channel, providing television programmes in the Swedish language in Finland. It is a public-service channel principally intended for Finland's Swedish-speaking minority, although – since a large part of the Finnish-speaking majority understand Swedish and most of the programmes are subtitled in Finnish – a large proportion of its viewers are in fact Finnish-speakers. Creating understanding over the language and culture border is also one of the channel's recognized objectives.[2]
Finlands Svenska Television's output was formerly included in the programming of YLE's two main television channels, TV1 and TV2. However, since 1 September 2007, all of YLE's Swedish-language television programmes are now broadcast exclusively on digital channel FST5.
