FC Tucson was first organized in 2010. Their first full match was against the New York Red Bulls reserve in the 2011 Desert Cup.[1] That match featured the first goal scored by the team, former Pima Community College and Salpointe Catholic High School player Fernando Gauna scoring as a substitute.
They played against several teams from the region in a loosely organized league.[2][3] They played their first league match on May 13, a 7 - 2 win over Yavapai FC.[4]
FC Tucson plans to move to the fourth division USL Premier Development League for the 2012 season.[5]
The badge was designed by Erik von Weber. Instead of a shield, the badge is shaped like an arrowhead as an homage to the history of the region.[6]
A fan group was organized by members of the local American Outlaws chapter called The Cactus Pricks.
