Everyman Campaign
The Everyman Campaign is an appeal that was launched in the UK by The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in 1997.
Its primary aim is to raise funds for testicular and prostate cancer research conducted at the ICR.
Since its launch, funds raised have supported ground-breaking developments, including:
- Discovering and developing the prostate cancer drug abiraterone, which has been shown to prolong survival for patients with advanced prostate cancer.
- Identifying numerous new genetic variants that increase a man’s risk of developing prostate cancer, leading to a greater understanding of susceptibility to the disease.
- Dramatically improving prostate cancer radiotherapy through the development of conformal and intensity modulated techniques.
- Discovering the first inherited genetic variants for testicular cancer, which can increase a man’s risk of developing the disease.
- Developing the drug carboplatin which has helped lead to a 99% cure rate for testicular cancer and is also widely used in ovarian, lung, head, neck and bladder cancers.
