Chart performances

The song was a hit on several charts, particularly on the Hot Dance Club Play in the US, where it reached #1 for three consecutive weeks from July 21 to August 4, 1990. The song also peaked at #2 on the U.S. R&B Chart, #8 on Billboard Hot 100, #16 on the UK Singles Chart,[2] and achieved a great success in Ireland (#6).

The song features an uncredited Martha Wash on lead vocals. Wash later sued the record label for royalties and directly contributed to legislation ensuring proper credit for vocalists on both songs and music videos.

Uses in the media and remixes

Eurodance and electronic music DJ and producer Benny Benassi remixed "Everybody Everybody" in 2007.

The song was featured on "Play It Again, Brian," the tenth episode of the sixth season of Family Guy. The episode was originally broadcast on March 2, 2008. In the episode, Peter Griffin laments that his friend Cleveland Brown is unavailable for babysitting services because he is touring with Black Box. A clip is then shown of a rather portly, singlet-clad Brown performing "Everybody Everybody."
