Etzelkofen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Etzelkofen is first mentioned in 1302 as villa Ezenchoven.[3]
Etzelkofen has an area, as of 2009[update], of 2.81 km2 (1.08 sq mi). Of this area, 1.66 km2 (0.64 sq mi) or 59.1% is used for agricultural purposes, while 1 km2 (0.39 sq mi) or 35.6% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 0.15 km2 (37 acres) or 5.3% is settled (buildings or roads) and 0.01 km2 (2.5 acres) or 0.4% is unproductive land.[4]
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.9% and transportation infrastructure made up 1.1%. 35.6% of the total land area is heavily forested. Of the agricultural land, 42.3% is used for growing crops and 15.3% is pastures, while 1.4% is used for orchards or vine crops.[4]
It is located on the Rapperswil plateau.
Etzelkofen has a population (as of 31 December 2010) of 293.[1] As of 2007[update], 1.6% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years the population has decreased at a rate of -6.7%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (99.2%), with English being second most common ( 0.6%) and French being third ( 0.3%).
In the 2007 election the most popular party was the SVP which received 51.8% of the vote. The next three most popular parties were the FDP (14.9%), the SPS (10%) and the Green Party (9.6%).
The age distribution of the population (as of 2000[update]) is children and teenagers (0–19 years old) make up 26.3% of the population, while adults (20–64 years old) make up 59.8% and seniors (over 64 years old) make up 14%. The entire Swiss population is generally well educated. In Etzelkofen about 0% of the population (between age 25-64) have completed either non-mandatory upper secondary education or additional higher education (either university or a Fachhochschule).
Etzelkofen has an unemployment rate of 1.75%.
