Erkin Abdulla (Uyghur: ئەركىن ئابدۇللا; Chinese: 艾尔肯·阿布杜拉, pinyin: Àiěrkěn Ābùdùlā) was born in Qarghiliq. Kashgar, Xinjiang, China. He started to study guitar since childhood. In 1999, he graduated from Central University for Nationalities. Because he was very fond of music, he became a professional pop singer, and set up Erkin Music Group. He is an associate director of Chinese Flamenco Association.

Music style

Erkin's music is not merely in the traditional styles, but free and surpasses its ethnic roots. Using Flamenco, he has created a new music to the traditional one, making his work more modern and international. Some different from the concept most people have of traditional Uyghur music, his music has a distinct, international flare.Therefore, his music is a "mixture" of Uyghur, Turkish, Russian, Spanish and Chinese, as well as rock, jazz and hip-hop styles, which may be caused by his birth place which is the centre of Eurasia, or the silk road.

Music road

In 2002, Erkin, as a singer and songwriter, sang at a competition arranged by cooperation between the Japanese Fuji Television Networks and Beijing Television (BTV). Then he moved up to the annual championship round. As the representative of China as a contestant at the "China-Japan Cultural Exchange", Erkin got the great acclaim.

April 2003: Erkin's band went to the Beijing Agricultural University for a charity performance, aimed to give aid to earthquake victims in Maralbexi County of Xinjiang.

In 2004, Erkin played on the CCTV Spring Festival Celebration, and sang the song "Almakhan".

June 2004: Erkin published "The Collection of Erkin's Music Notes".

June 2004: Erkin began the "Tengritagh Heavenly Music Tour" in Xinjiang.

June 2004: Erkin was given the honor: "Ambassador of Kashgar's Youth".

August 2004: Erkin and his band performed in Turpan.

November 2004: Erkin performed the musical piece "The Closest people to the sun" at a concert. A VCD was made to be sold in Xinjiang.

In 2005, Erkin appeared on the CCTV Spring Festival Celebration, and sang "Lift Your Veil".

May 2005: As the "Ambassador of Kashgar's Youth", Erkin wrote music for the movie "Brothers and Sisters", sang the theme song "Kashgar".
