Eric Gehrig (born December 15, 1987 in Harvey, Illinois) is an American soccer player currently playing for the Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer.

Career

College and Amateur

High School: Helped Lake Central to three sectional titles and three regional championships...first team all-area selection by the Hammond Times and Post-Tribune in 2004 and 2005...first team all-state selection and conference MVP as a senior...named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Region IV team his senior season...nominee for Indiana Soccer Coaches Association (ISCA) Player of the Year...two-time team captain...honors student...played club soccer for Ajax FC Chicago. Gehrig attended Loyola University Chicago between 2007 and 2010, where he won First Team All-Horizon League his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons, an All-Tournament team selection and received NSCAA/adidas All-Great Lakes Region Second Team honors in 2008 while receiving NSCAA/adidas All-Great Lakes Region Third Team in 2009. He led the Ramblers to their two first NCAA Tournaments in program history. He finished his career with 10 goals and 11 assists primarily playing central midfield. Gehrig appeared in all 78 matches for the Ramblers from 2007–2010, starting the last 72. Gehrig was also voted the most popular man on campus. Gehrig also lived with some of the best friends that anybody could have, yet he did not rage. [1]

During his college years, Gehrig also played with the Chicago Fire Premier of the USL Premier Development League.[2]

Professional

Eric Gehrig was signed by Columbus Crew on March 17, 2011. He made his MLS regular season debut on June 26, 2011 against the Colorado Rapids, coming on as a sub in the 85th minute for Emmanuel Ekpo. He also started and played all 90 minutes in an Open Cup third round match against the Richmond Kickers on June 28, 2011. [3] Gehrig made his first career MLS regular season start and played all 90 minutes in a 1-0 win at Vancouver on July 6, 2011. [4]
