Elections of Police and Crime Commissioners in England and Wales are scheduled to take place on 15 November 2012[1][2], having been put back from the originally planned date of May 2012[3] in order to secure the passage of the Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 through the House of Lords.[4]
The elections will be for the 41 police forces of England and Wales, outside of Greater London[5] and will take place using the supplementary vote system.
The Liberal Democrats Federal Executive Committee voted against providing funds for regional parties who wished to stand candidates[6]. The opposition Labour Party is to consider not standing in favour of independent candidates, claiming that running candidates would politicise the polls.[7] Colonel Tim Collins gave an indication that he would consider standing as a Conservative candidate in the Kent Police election[8].
