Encholirium is a genus of the botanical family Bromeliaceae, subfamily Pitcairnioideae. The genus name is from the Greek “enchos” (spear) and “leiron” (lily)[1].
This genus is native to Brazil where many occur exclusively in arid, rocky conditions. Some species of Encholirium are limited in number and have been the focus of conservation efforts[2]. These plants, which have been observed being pollinated by bats[3], are commonly confused with Dyckia.
