Elvi was originally a Dutch wholesale clothing company with a size range from 8-20. The owner was a man called Elin Vissor and thus the name Elvi was devised. The brand, created in the 1940s, had a long history as a wholesale brand based in Holland and wholesaled throughout Europe - mainly in Holland, Germany, Belgium and France. In 1993 Elvi was bought by a company called Lerose Limited, which was in turn bought by Country Casuals (a.k.a CC). CC felt that an opportunity existed to establish a brand for size 16 and up in the UK, both in High Street shops and in concessions in department stores.
Leveraging its strengths in producing and sourcing collections for size 16 and up, Elvi was launched in the UK in autumn 1993 as a quality retailer specialising in size 16 and up clothes for women.
