Elf Girl

Elf Girl is a memoir written by Lower East Side artist Reverend Jen and released through Simon and Schuster in November 2011. The book chronicles Reverend Jen's life and the Art Star scene in New York City with various short stories which blend humor and dramatic, often extremely personal diary entries to form a narrative. The book is dedicated to performer and actor Faceboy, who is also featured as a character throughout. The book was well-received upon release, with many critics and celebrities alike praising Jen's writing and over-all attitude.[1]

Regarding the book, Author Jonathan Ames wrote:

"Rev Jen is a beautiful outsider whose tales enlighten, titillate, and profoundly amuse."[2]

'Elf Girl' features numerous stories that revolve around the Lower East Side 'Art Star Scene', a term coined by Reverend Jen in the '90s. It also includes short episodes detailing her struggles working as an artist and writer within New York, while performing regularly with some of her many acts, including acting in the series 'Toolz of the New School' directed by John Wellington Ennis, playing 'Doo Doo' the fifth Teletubby and her one-woman musical 'Rats', the shortest running show on Broadway.[3][4][5]

Author Neil Gaiman said of the memoir:

"Reverend Jen is one of those amazingly good, if unlikely, things the universe throws up once in a blue fake-fur-covered moon. Her books are funny and perceptive and like nothing anybody else has written. Which actually might be a good thing, or the world would crumble under the weight of elf-ears and trolls and art."
