Eduardo Estíbariz Ruiz de Eguiluz (born May 27, 1966 in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Álava), known as Estíbariz, is a former Spanish professional footballer, who played as a right defender.

Played 243 professional matches over the course of thirteen seasons, namely for Athletic Bilbao.

Football career

Estíbariz started his professional with Deportivo Alavés (having played his second year in the fourth division) and Sestao Sport Club (second), moving to regional giants Athletic Bilbao in 1989. Although never a consummate first-choice (his best output consisted of 21 topflight matches, in two different seasons), he was featured regularly.

Estíbariz moved, aged 31, to Rayo Vallecano, where he played three seasons, achieving top level promotion in his second, with 35 matches. He closed out his career after a sole season with CD Aurrerá de Vitoria, also in the Basque Country.

Five years after his departure, Estíbariz returned to Athletic Bilbao starting out as trainer for the youth sides. Until 2009, he would work in that capacity with farm team CD Baskonia and the reserve squad. In June 2010, he returned to the youth ranks, after being named its director of methodology.[1]
