The Edinburgh to Aberdeen Line is a railway line linking Edinburgh with Aberdeen via the Forth Bridge, the Tay Bridge and Dundee. Also it serves as an extension to the East Coast Main Line and the Cross Country Route. Passenger services are operated by First ScotRail, CrossCountry and East Coast.

This line is not electrified by means of overhead power cables (with the exception of the Edinburgh Haymarket to Edinburgh Waverley section). The number of stops on a typical journey between Aberdeen and Edinburgh is also partly responsible for the amount of time travel takes between the two stations.

Services

From December 2008

From 14 December 2008, services on the route have been extended as part of the Aberdeen Crossrail project. Many of the Edinburgh services have been extended to Inverurie (on the Aberdeen to Inverness Line) which has also increased the number of services stopping at Dyce with connections for Aberdeen Airport.[1] One service is extended all the way to Inverness.
