Edinburg North High School (commonly ENHS, Edinburg North, or North) is a public secondary school in Edinburg, Texas, United States, serving students in grades 9–12. The school is part of the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District, with admission based primarily on the locations of students' homes. Edinburg North is a two-time Blue Ribbon School and a Texas Exemplary School.
ENHS administers more Advanced Placement tests each year than any other school west of the Mississippi River and all but one school in the United States.[3] The school is accredited by the Texas Education Agency as well as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. ENHS was ranked in the top 1,300 high schools in the United States in 2008.[4] ENHS' mascot is the Cougar.
As of the 2005-06 school year, the school had an enrollment of 2,558 students and 148.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student-teacher ratio of 17.2.[1]
Recent district expansion has added a performing arts center to each of ECISD's high schools (all completed November 2010), including at Edinburg North.[5]
Edinburg North's first Athletic Cordinator was Robert Alaniz. As the coach for the Cougar football Team he led them to a 10-0 season and took them to the playoffs 6 different times. Mario Lopez took over as Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach after Robert Alaniz became Athletic Director in 2001. Coach Lopez led the Cougar football team to two District Championships, a Bi-District Championship, and a trip to the Area Championship in 2002 where they lost to Laredo. The Cougars current Head Coach is Roy Garza, who has also had success taking the Cougars to the playoffs. Notable athletes with District and State Honors from Edinburg North include; Victor Prado, John De La Vina, Mark Hudgens, Isreal Menchaca, Steven Cruz, Robert Perez, Phillip Rodriguez, Louie Alamia, Bryan Welch and Will Houston.
