History

Eastwood College is an independent K-12 school serving children in Lebanon since 1973. Eastwood College endeavors to provide a holistic educational experience that nurtures the social and academic potential of its students.

The school provides internationally-based and Lebanese-based curricula through two distinct programs. Our vibrant student body is composed of students from some 20 countries from around the world, therefore, a focus on personalized attention to learners is a hallmark of the Eastwood College experience.

Eastwood College was founded in 1973 with the vision of Mr. Amine Khoury and Ms. Hazel St. John MBE to provide an equitable educational community for all learners. The board of advisors has since been in effect, overseeing major curriculum and policy decisions.

Since its foundation, Eastwood College has kept abreast with best pedagogical practices. A holistic approach to education distinguishes it from other schools; Eastwood College's focus is on the social, emotional and academic nurturing of its learners. Its goal to recruit a highly qualified, diverse teaching workforce supports the effort to maintain internationally recognized standards in curriculum and teaching. Small class sizes ensure that students with distinct educational competence and backgrounds receive the individual attention and care they require.

The school’s curriculum is based on active construction of meaning through rigorous coursework that is intellectually challenging and culturally appropriate. Students explore topics in depth through a method of inquiry which allows them to ask and tackle meaningful questions. There is great attention to social interactions within the curriculum, such as conversations, discussions, joint work, and debate. Such interactions provide opportunities for students to learn through observing the performance of others, receiving feedback about their own performance, hearing alternative points of view, and engaging in the exchange of ideas.

There is a periodic review of the curriculum to ensure that high standards are maintained.

Mission and Philosophy

Eastwood College strives to be an Evangelical educational community for students of all nationalities and religions. The school aims to provide a supportive environment in which learners can develop their academic potential, their personal and social awareness, and their career goals.

The success of its mission depends on the commitment of all members of the school community to take an active part in its effort to provide an instructional system that conforms to the high standards of international education. To this end, the College offers a diversified curriculum that allows students to select the course of study that best meets their educational objectives and the requirements of Lebanese and international institutions of higher learning.

Eastwood College is committed to a program of continuous improvement. Existing programs and practices are subject to periodic review and assessment. Equipment and facilities are regularly upgraded. An organized program for professional staff development ensures that the quality of instruction is consistent with best-practice educational research.
