Eastlake is a "home rule" village in Manistee County U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 441 at the 2000 census. [home rule villages act, PA 278 of 1909) Home rule refers to the authority of a city or village under a state's constitution and laws to draft and adopt a charter for its own government.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.5 square miles (3.9 km2), of which, 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2) of it (21.72%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 441 people, 189 households, and 127 families residing in the village. The population density was 372.6 per square mile (144.3/km²). There were 209 housing units at an average density of 176.6 per square mile (68.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 92.52% White, 0.23% African American, 4.76% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 1.13% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.49% of the population.

There were 189 households out of which 24.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.4% were married couples living together, 11.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% were non-families. 27.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.78.

In the village the population was spread out with 19.5% under the age of 18, 8.6% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $31,750, and the median income for a family was $35,417. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the village was $15,034. About 1.6% of families and 3.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 9.4% of those age 65 or over.
