East Coulee is a former hamlet, now unincorporated community, in Drumheller, Alberta. Its hamlet status ceased when the Municipal District of Badlands No. 7, which formerly had jurisdiction over the hamlet, amalgamated with the City of Drumheller to form a town under the name of the Town of Drumheller on January 1, 1998.[2]
East Coulee is located on Highway 10, approximately 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) east of Drumheller's main townsite and 112 kilometres (70 mi) northeast of Calgary. It lies in the Red Deer River valley and has an elevation of 675 metres (2,215 ft).
The former hamlet is located in census division No. 5 and in the federal riding of Crowfoot. Following the merger of Drumheller and the Municipal District of Badlands No. 7, East Coulee fell under the municipal administration of the newly defined Town of Drumheller.
It was one of the filming locations of the television series MythQuest.
As of 2006, East Coulee had a total population of 177 living in 94 dwellings. With a land area of 1.14 km2 (0.44 sq mi), it has a population density of 155.3 /km2 (402 /sq mi).[1]
