The European Organisation of Military Associations (EUROMIL) is a politically independent, not-for-profit organisation of free, democratic associations of military personnel in Europe. It aims to represent on a European level the general, non-material, professional and social interests of active and former members of the military, their families and surviving dependents.

The EUROMIL Mission is

Representing human rights, fundamental freedoms and professional interests of military personnel in Europe.

EUROMIL has its headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. The organisation maintains formal contacts with the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the Parliamentary Assemblies of NATO and the WEU, the OSCE and the ETUC. In addition EUROMIL liaises with the European Commission, the European Council, EPSU, and EuroCOP.

EUROMIL's co-operation with European police and police staff organisations reflects the fact that some countries maintain a Gendarmerie, a military body charged with police duties amongst the civilian population.

Membership

The number of military associations affiliated to EUROMIL has grown steadily since it was founded in 1972. At the end of the Cold War EUROMIL immediately opened its doors to military associations from Central and Eastern Europe. EUROMIL now comprises more than 38 associations from 26 countries representing nearly 500,000 individuals, the latest addition being from Albania. There are representative military associations in other parts of Europe which may well be eligible to join EUROMIL, but have not yet done so.
