EUobserver.com is an independent online newspaper covering the politics of the European Union (EU). It focuses on human rights, civil liberties, transparency, anti-corruption, digital rights, critical environmentalism and the democratisation of the European Union. It also publishes comment pieces and blogs reflecting opinion from across the political spectrum, but it does not publish its own leaders or editorials.
Established in 2000, the EUobserver claims to be the largest online daily news site focused on the EU with over 60,000 daily readers and the second most read EU-related news source used by journalists after the Financial Times.[1][2]
The website's editor-in-chief is Lisbeth Kirk, Danish journalist, the wife of Jens-Peter Bonde, a former Danish Member of the European Parliament who used to co-chair the Independence and Democracy group of eurocritical MEPs in the European Parliament.
Veronika Szente Goldston, Human Rights Watch’s advocacy director for Europe and central Asia has said of the paper: "EUobserver has the most in-your-face journalists in Brussels."
