A Welsh schoolboy international, Lewis began his career as an apprentice at his home town club Swansea City, making his professional debut in a 2–1 defeat to Notts County. After establishing himself in the side, Lewis helped the club to three Welsh Cup victories and promotion to Division Three during the 1987–88 season after beating Torquay United in the play-off final.[2]
Lewis made his only appearance for Wales on 12 June 1983 as a substitute for Jeremy Charles during a 1–1 draw with Brazil.[3]
