According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 250 people, 108 households, and 66 families residing in the town. The population density was 575.2 inhabitants per square mile (224.5/km²). There were 113 housing units at an average density of 260.0 per square mile (101.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 81.20% White, 13.20% African American, 1.60% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.00% from other races, and 2.00% from two or more races. 5.60% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 108 households out of which 28.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.7% were married couples living together, 15.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.0% were non-families. 33.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.88.

In the town the population was spread out with 25.2% under the age of 18, 9.6% from 18 to 24, 27.2% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 18.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 106.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $27,778, and the median income for a family was $29,250. Males had a median income of $30,625 versus $20,455 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,455. About 15.5% of families and 19.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 19.0% of those under the age of eighteen and 35.6% of those sixty five or over.
