The Electoral Division of Denison is one of the 5 electorates in the Tasmanian House of Assembly. The division is named after Sir William Denison, who was Lieutenant Governor of Van_Diemen's Land 1847-55, and Governor of New South Wales 1855-61. The division shares its name and boundaries with the federal division of Denision. At each state election; five members are elected to Denison through preference voting.[1]
The division is located on the western side of the Derwent River within the Greater Hobart area and includes City of Hobart, City of Glenorchy and the suburban areas of Moonah, Battery Point, Sandy Bay and Taroona. Covering an area of 290 km² it is the smallest of the five electoral divisions.
The electorate has the highest Green vote in Tasmania. The Australian Labor Party polls strongly in Glenorchy and Moonah, whereas the Greens and Liberals obtain most of their votes in Hobart and Sandy Bay.
