Diriangen
Diriangen was the legendary tribal leader of the Chorotegas who can rightfully be called the first resistance fighter of the Nicaragua. He fought against the Spanish in the 1520s, keeping them at bay for a time. Part of his legacy can be seen in the words from the famous folk song Nicaragua, Nicaraguita where the words are as follows:
- Ay Nicaragua, Nicaragüita, el país más lindo de mi querer,
- abonada con la bendita, Nicaragüita, sangre de Diriagen.
- Oh Nicaragua, the most beautiful country of my love,
- Fertilized with the blessed blood of Diriangen.
