Dhatt
Dhatt (Punjabi: ਢੱਟ), is a small Sikh Jatt clan found in Northern India. It is considered to be an old Jat clan with history dating back over 1000 years.
It has no relation with the Dutt or Datt. There is no alternative spelling for Dhatt in English.
Famous Dhatts
- Gouri Dhatt (Gurbachan Dhatt), one of the first Indian Ph.D in computer science from Laval University in 1968. World-renowned authority in finite analysis.
- Sirdar Kapoor Singh: A famous Sikh scholar and former ICS (Indian Civil Services) officer. He contributed in the making of the Anandpur Sahib Resolution.
- Harry Dhatt (Harbans Singh Dhatt): The first Sikh Canadian Member of the Canadian Parliament and the first Sikh Canadian to become a federal minister in the Jean Chrétien government in Canada.
- Lt.Col. H.S Dhatt: War hero of the 1965 Indo-Pak War. Led the attack in the Battle of Phillora with the famous and elite "The Poona Horse". Received the honorable Vir Chakra for courageously saving the life of a wounded squadmate while under heavy enemy fire. He was severely burned when his tank exploded due to a direct hit in the engine. All his men made it back safely to live another day. Originally he was declared posthumous but the error was corrected.
- Ajit Singh Dhatt: MLA from Mandi Burewala, Punjab Pre-partition. He stayed MLA from 1936 - 1952. He was Chief Parliamentary Secretary in the Bhargava Punjab Cabinet.
- Santokh Singh Dhatt (Tokhi )a legendary Kabbadi player from Village Ambala Jattan District Hoshiarpur. He was also Dhatt.
- Jarnail Singh Dhatt & Balbir Singh Dhatt are famous teachers from village Raghwal.Both are M.A.B.Ed. in English.Where as Jarnail Singh Dhatt is setteled in Canada(Toronto).
- Gurkirpal Singh Dhatt leading industrialist and agriculturist of mohali .
