Derwonaji (also transliterated Derwernache) is a town in eastern Ethiopia. Located in the Jijiga Zone of the Somali Region, this town has a longitude and latitude of and an elevation of 1402 meters above sea level.
The UNHCR reports that in 2000 they assisted in the digging of a couple of relatively shallow wells at this settlement.[1]
Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, this town has an estimated total population of 35,645, of whom 19,327 are men and 16,318 are women.[2] The 1997 census reported this town had a total population of 23,891 of whom 12,768 were men and 11,123 women. The largest ethnic groups reported in this town were the Somali (67.47%), and foreign nationals from Somalia (31.02%); all other ethnic groups made up 1.51% of the population.[3] It is one of two towns in Awbere woreda.
