There have been two stations at Deighton, on different routes.
The first station, on the branch line to Kirkburton, opened on 30 August 1871,[1] the branch having opened in 1867.[2] This station was situated on the north-east side of Whitacre Street.[2] It closed on 28 July 1930.[1]
The present station was opened on 26 April 1982[1] by Metro (the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive). It is to the south-west of Whitacre Street and close to the site of the former Kirkburton branch junction.[2]
Local trains on the Huddersfield Line operated by Northern Rail from Huddersfield stop at Deighton going towards Leeds and Wakefield Westgate. Both services operate hourly Monday to Fridays, with a half-hourly service to Leeds in rush hours and Saturdays.
There is a two-hourly service in each direction on Sundays: westbound trains used to continue through to Marsden prior to the December 2008 timetable change but now terminate at Huddersfield.
