Deconbrio is an American Electronic Rock band, originating in 2000 by Danny Rendo in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Rendo, the only official member of the group, combines the use of software synthesizers, samples, effects and live instruments to create Deconbrio's sound. Though more commonly considered as an Electronic Rock band, Deconbrio's music also has bits of Goth, Rock, EBM, Powernoise, little bits of Classical, Metal and just a touch of New Wave.[1]

History

Deconbrio got its start in 2000, while Rendo was in his junior year at Piper High School. Growing a deep liking of Electronic music - most notably Nine Inch Nails - he began writing and recording his own music. Though he distributed demos independently, none of the music he had released was ever official, and were eventually discarded - save a few songs that eventually made their way onto Deconbrio's official debut album.

Seeing how the local music scene in Ft. Lauderdale was slowly diminishing, Rendo took a break from Deconbrio for a few years. Then, in 2007, he began writing new material, which became Obsessions of a False Idol.

In 2008, Deconbrio was signed to Bit Riot Records, which released their EP, The Vanishing.

In mid-2009, Rendo moved to San Francisco, California, and is finishing up production on the follow-up to The Vanishing, entitled Voyeur.

Rendo has stated that the name Deconbrio (pronounced "de-KAWN-bree-O") has no real meaning behind it, though it does somewhat derive from the musical term Con Brio, meaning to play "with spirit or with vigour". Rendo says he "wasn't sure how to pronounce 'Con Brio' at the time, but [I] thought it sounded cool with [the prefix] 'de'".

Releases

Obsessions of a False Idol

Obsessions of a False Idol (Also referred to as False Idol or OFI), the debut album from Deconbrio, was released as a digital download on February 3, 2008,[2] under a Creative Commons License. The story behind False Idol is a David-And-Goliath-Like onslaught between the starving artist, the music industry and the assembly-line of music they force-feed to the world.[3] The album contains the tracks "Masquerade" and "Static", which both appeared on previous demos. a music video for "Copycat" was released in January 2008, followed by "A Vicious Reality", which was released in February 2008 on YouTube.[4]

Obsessions of a False Idol: Remastered

On August 17, 2010, Deconbrio had posted on their Twitter and Facebook pages, telling those who had Obsessions of a False Idol to "get ready to delete it from your hard drive/mp3 player".[5] Shortly after this announcement, Deconbrio posted a remastered version of the album to BandCamp, where fans now have the option to download the album as 320kbps MP3 files, AAC files or lossless FLAC files.[6]

Obsessions of a False Idol 2.0

In September 2008, Deconbrio hinted at the release of Obsessions of a False Idol 2.0, which was to include all 12 tracks from "False Idol" re-recorded and remixed by Rendo, keyboardist Christopher Lombardo and guitarist John Zhang. Though no word on a release was ever mentioned, Rendo released three instrumental tracks from False Idol 2.0 to members of Deviant Nation.[7]

Rendo eventually stated that the songs, which were to be False Idol 2.0, would instead be the live versions of Obsessions of a False Idol songs.

The Vanishing

In February 2009, Deconbrio announced the follow-up to Obsessions of a False Idol, entitled The Vanishing. The 5-Track EP was the first release from Deconbrio to be released under Bit Riot Records, and is described as a bit more personal. What starts off as a much needed retaliation toward the demons in Danny's head, soon manifests into a story of anger, vengeance and obscure fantasy.[8] A tracklisting and album cover were released shortly after the announcement of the album.

The Vanishing was released on July 13 through Fixt Music. On August 11, it was released on the official Bit Riot Records store, Amazon,[9] iTunes and Zune Marketplace.[10] On November 4, it became available on VampireFreaks.
