Whyte was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 15, 1960 and mostly raised in New Bern, North Carolina. His father, Daniel Whyte Jr, was a pastor, and gospel singer. At the age of seventeen, Whyte left home and started working as a trainer for a restaurant chain across the states of North Carolina and northern South Carolina. On August 15, 1979, he signed up to join the United States Air Force, one month before he turned nineteen years old.
On December 19, 1979, around 8:30 PM, a young man, by the name of Michael Lewis came to Daniel Whyte III's dorm room on Kessler Air Force in Biloxi, Mississippi. Michael Lewis showed him the "Romans Road" to salvation through Jesus Christ from the book of Romans in the Bible. This was the first time Whyte had heard a clear, understandable presentation of the Gospel, even though he was raised in the church.
Three days after his conversion, Daniel Whyte III was on the street corners of New Orleans in the rain and cold, preaching. Since then Whyte has preached in 43 states and in the following countries: Germany, Spain, England, Belgium, France, Italy, Japan, Russia, Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Antigua, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts, Ghana, Nigeria, the Philippines, Mexico, Netherlands, Korea, Malta, Togo, and Benin.[1]
On December 19, 1989, Whyte married Meriqua Althea Dixon. Together, they have seven children.
