Ctesippus

In Greek mythology, the name Ctesippus may refer to:

• A son of Heracles, either by Deianira or by Astydameia.^[1][2] He was the father of Thrasyanor, grandfather of Antimachus and great-grandfather of Deiphontes.^[3] Thersander, son of Agamedidas, is also given as his great-grandson.^[4]

• Two of the suitors of Penelope, one from Same, and the other from Ithaca.^[5] The rich and "lawless" Ctesippus of Same, son of Polytherses, appears in the Odyssey; he mocks at the disguised Odysseus and hurls a bull's hoof at him.^[6] Later, in the battle between Odysseus and the suitors, he attempts to kill Eumaeus with a spear, but misses and is thereupon himself killed by Philoetius, who thus avenges the disrespect towards his master.^[7]
