Cryptacize is a California pop band founded by Nedelle Torrisi and Chris Cohen in 2006. Cryptacize, along with Cohen's other project The Curtains, records for the Asthmatic Kitty label. Nedelle has released two cds on the Kill Rock Stars label, one as a solo performer and one as a member of the duet Nedelle and Thom. Cohen was also a contributing member of the band Deerhoof.

After seeing percussionist Michael Carreira's solo cowbell videos on Youtube, Cohen and Torrisi asked him to join Cryptacize in 2007 and recorded their debut album Dig That Treasure.[1] Dig That Treasure (named after a musical written by Cohen's father when he was a teenager)[2] features pristine, almost Broadway-inflected vocals, along with jagged and percussive electric guitars.
The songs follow an idiosyncratic musical structure and often have an absurd or melodramatic tinge.

Following the completion of 2009's Mythomania, bassist Aaron Olson joined Cryptacize.

Cryptacize toured the US many times, opening for bands such as Why?,[3] Danielson,[4] and Sufjan Stevens,[5] Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffitti, and The Fiery Furnaces.
