The Crichton Leprechaun (known alternatively as the Mobile Leprechaun) is a leprechaun purported to have been sighted in March 2006 by the residents of the Crichton neighborhood in Mobile, Alabama.[1] The Crichton Leprechaun rose to international prominence after a news story on the creature was aired by the local NBC affiliate, WPMI-TV, filed by reporter Brian Johnson, and shot by photographer Kevin Sibley.[2] The news story soon spread to internet video sites such as YouTube and Google Videos. It has been criticized as racist by Bill O'Reilly.[3]
The news story on the sighting was parodied in the South Park episode "The Coon".
A soundclip from the news story is used in the song I Don't Mean To Impose, But I Am The Ocean by the band The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza off their second album Danza II.
