History

In 1978, the Baan company was created, it was one of the early developers of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. In 2001, Jan Baan founded Cordys.

Jan Baan, the Founder & Chairman, Chief Innovation Officer of the company, identified that ERP systems no longer justified the costs, and lacked flexibility and agility. With globalization and the increasing popularity of the World Wide Web, there was a demand from different enterprises to solve specific business problems. Baan argued in his book “Business Operations Improvement – The new paradigm in enterprise IT” that it is difficult to address problems of a world driven by the Internet with ERP systems as they were made long before the Internet became a part of daily business.

From 2001, Cordys started research into combining the elements of existing ERP and the upcoming internet-based cloud technology. The company realized that ERP serves very specific and valuable goals and that many companies have invested large amounts of money in them,[2] so the company started developing a platform that encapsulates some of the elements of existing ERP “behind the scenes” and simultaneously makes use of what the Internet has to offer as the “front end”.

Cordys Business Operations Platform

The Cordys Business Operations Platform (BOP) consists of a suite of Business Process Management, Integration and Composite Applications Development. The platform allows organizations to design, execute, monitor, change and optimize critical business processes and operations. This platform consists of three layers: a SOA Grid which makes integration with legacy IT systems available; a BPMS (Business Process Management Suite) for modelling and executing of critical business processes, and a Composite Application Framework to build rich internet applications . The platform is available both on-premise or as a PaaS (Platform as a Service) in a public, private or hybrid cloud.

Cordys Process Factory

Cordys Process Factory is a platform to create light weight business processes and web-based, process-centric applications. Users of Cordys Process Factory can create customized mash-up applications or MashApps by combining standard business applications like Google Apps and commercially available services, with Web services from anywhere. The online modelling environment is built on top of the Cordys Business Operations Platform.

Cordys Process Factory contains a MashApps Composer, an online modeling environment built on top of the Cordys Business Operations Platform. From the MashApps Composer, a business user can start with Cloud Application Development. The MashApps Composer allows the user to use the different features and graphical modeling. With the MashApps Composer, business users can create applications. Next to that, ISVs (Independent Software Vendors) can create and sell applications in the cloud marketplace of Cordys Process Factory.
