Valenciennellus is an oceanic ray-finned fish genus which belongs in the family Sternoptychidae. They are commonly known as constellationfishes.
Its type species is V. tripunctulatus, and only one additional living species is placed here:[1]
Fossils of constellationfishes are known since the Early Eocene, more than 40 million years ago.[2]
