Complaints and Grievances
Complaints and Grievances is an HBO stand-up special by comedian George Carlin. Its working title was purportedly I Kinda Like It When a Lot of People Die, but it was renamed following the September 11, 2001 attacks.[1] Another possible title was The Great American Cattle Drive, according to Carlin during an interview with Coast to Coast AM in 1999.
Complaints and Grievances was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Spoken Comedy Album.
In the special, Carlin reduces the Ten Commandments to the "Two Commandments." Using the Roman Catholic version of the Ten Commandments, with which he was most familiar, he removes what he considered redundant concepts ("Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife" and "Thou shalt not commit adultery" are merged into "Thou shalt not be unfaithful") and outmoded ideas (dismissing "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's goods" as counter to the spirit of capitalism and detrimental to the economy).
