Code Word: Geronimo is a graphic novel published by IDW Publishing and released on September 6, 2011,[1] written by Dale Dye and Julia Dye, and drawn by comic book artist Gerry Kissell with inker Amin Amat, Code Word: Geronimo is the 88 page hard cover hard cover graphic novel that tells the story of Seal Team Six's mission to take out Osama Bin-Laden.[2][3][4] Though the book has been positively received by most, for its political neutral approach to the telling of the story, [5] there have been a few negative reactions on the web regarding the book, questioning the creators making a profit from a book dealing with such a subject, or how much of the profit is being shared with the purported Veteran Charity prominently displayed on the back of the book. One such critic is Perez Hilton. [6] Beyond the military accuracy and detail in the writing and the straight forward realistic way Gerry Kissell illustrated it, one of the interesting differences of the book from many graphic novels of its type, is the afterword written by best selling author John M. Del Vecchio, a Vietnam War veteran and author of The 13th Valley and Carry Me Home. Some critics of the book appreciated the detail his afterword lent to understanding the mission as well as the use of Geronimo's name, and why it was used. [7]
The leader of SEAL Team 6 uttered, “Geronimo,” and the world let out a sigh of relief. The symbol of ultimate evil was no more. CODE WORD: GERONIMO is the amazing, moment-by-moment story of the clandestine raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Told by military insider and Hollywood consultant, Captain Dale Dye (USMC, Ret.), with Dr. Julia Dye, Ph.D., this historic tribute details the bravery and valor of SEAL Team 6 as it descends into a foreign land and achieves the near impossible.[8]
