Coburg is located at the southern end of the Bell Street level crossing, which provides station access.
The station consists of two side platforms; Platform 1 has a large red brick building housing an enclosed waiting area, ticket facilities and toilets, while platform 2 has a small steel shelter. A large Metcard ticket vending machine is located inside the waiting room, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. A coin-only Metcard ticket vending machine is located at the entrance to platform 2. Myki ticket vending machines are also located inside the waiting area on platform 1, and at the entrance to platform 2.
A crossover, a disused signal box and an underpass are all located at the Flinders Street end of the station.
Coburg station opened on 9 September 1884.[1] Boom barriers replaced hand gates at Bell Street in 1962, with boom barriers replacing interlocked gates at Munro Street in 1983.[2] A second platform (platform 2) was provided in 1995.[2] Coburg was upgraded to a Premium Station on 28 June 1996.[3]
