The Cirebonese are an ethnic group centered around the city of Cirebon in the northern part of the island of Java in Indonesia. Numbering approximately 1.9 million, the Cirebonese are Muslim. The language spoken by the Cirebonese is a mixture of Javanese and Sundanese, with a heavier influence from Javanese. Generally Cirebonese speakers can understand Javanese better than they can Sundanese.
