Chroococcales is an order of cyanobacterial life which includes the harmful algal bloom Microcystis aeruginosa.[1]
The order is characterized by single, floating cells or colonies which are embedded to a matrix. There is also a lack of differentiation between apical and basal structures.[2]
It consists of one family (Microcystaceae) with several genera, including[1]:
