Career

He began his career at Maldon Town, moving shortly to Billericay Town, though in 2007 he signed for League Two side Peterborough United, rejecting League One side Southend United, who had just been relegated from the Football League Championship. He joined Gillingham on loan in the 2010–11 season and scored three goals in four games for the League Two team. He joined Gillingham on a permanent basis in July 2011.[2]

On 26th December, 2011, Whelpdale suffered the unusual injury of a split scrotum during Gillingham's 2-1 away win at Crawley Town, which was much publicised.[3]
