Compact Muon Solenoid

One of the primary points of interest in the quiet community of Cessy, France is the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment, located 100 meters below ground at a site on the south-eastern edge of the village. CMS is a high-energy particle physics experiment which observes the result of high energy proton-proton collisions of the CERN laboratory's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) particle accelerator. [1]

Commerce

When working at CERN's Cessy site, daily needs may be challenging to meet, as the modest stores in Cessy proper are usually closed at lunchtime. For grocery shopping, there is a Carrefour in the nearby town of Segny, located close the CMS experiment. Carrefour also carries clothing, small appliances and miscellaneous goods. Carrefour also has a cafeteria attached, which is a popular option for lunch for those working at CMS. The food quality is similar to that of the CERN cafeterias, but on the positive side, it is fast and relatively inexpensive. If you have more time, consider L'Incontro Pizzeria located in Cessy, and also near CMS. The food is good, and they have inclusive weekday lunch specials which offer good value. However, the service can be quite leisurely, so don't go if you are in a hurry. The commune-operated Auberge Communale has both an excellent restaurant and a café. It is however closed on Monday evening and all day Tuesday & Wednesday.

Personalities
