Central Suffolk and North Ipswich is a county constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

The Conservative MP for the seat is Daniel Poulter who succeeded Sir Michael Lord in the 2010 general election.

Boundaries

It comprises the northern part of Ipswich and central Suffolk.

Following their review of parliamentary representation in Suffolk, the Boundary Commission for England has recommended minor alterations to the existing constituency arrangement. The electoral wards used in the creation of this seat are:

Constituency Profile

The seat is primarily rural farming territory. The exception to this is the three wards from Ipswich Borough, and Kesgrave, a new satellite town, which are far more suburban in character. Voting behaviour in these areas is mixed, but the rural villages are mainly Conservative. This said, the villages around the northern fringe of Ipswich have been strong bases for the Liberal Democrats recently with considerable support for the Green Party in Mendlesham.
