Cavatappi

Cavatappi is macaroni formed in a spiral tube shape. It is known by other names, including cellentani, spirali,[1] or tortiglione,[2] as well as the more colloquial terms scoobi doo[3] and double elbows. It usually has rigati (lines or grooves on the outside surface of pasta).

Etymology

Cavatappi is an Italian word created by compounding "cava tappi", which literally means "tap extractor" (a corkscrew). It is also known as serpentini, trivella, stortelli, and cellantanni.
