Catholic Social Services Australia

Catholic Social Services Australia is a welfare organisation that advances the social service ministry of the Roman Catholic Church in Australia.[1] It is the Catholic Church's peak body for social services in Australia and has 70 member organisations in metropolitan, regional and remote Australia.[2] The organisation provides assistance to over one million Australians every year.[3]

Notable members include Centacare employment offices and Jesuit, Marist, Josephite, Mercy and other Catholic welfare bodies attached to various dioceses and religious orders. CSSA is a commission of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference and works with Catholic organisations, governments, other churches and "people of good will" to develop social welfare policies, programs and other strategic responses for Australia.[4]

The body lobbies Australian governments on welfare issues.[5]
